Ah, how wonderful it is to be a 4th year medical student! I'm so eager and ready to go out in the world and tackle the residency application process! For those not familiar with the medical track, this is the time when a medical student decides which field of medicine he/she will be studying after graduation and applies to residency programs to obtain more training in that particular field. I myself will be pursuing obstetrics/gynecology, and anyone who knows me well would understand why.
Applications were recently submitted and I am now starting to hear back from programs for interview offers. As part of the application students submit a headshot so the programs have something to remember you by; a face to the documents and numbers in front of them. And as an amateur photographer I absolutely refused to pay someone to do my headshot. Since I don't have any professional equipment besides the actual camera itself (a Nikon D3000 with the starter lens), I just went around campus one day in professional wear and took some self portraits. I managed to find a few shots I liked and ended up sending the first image below. Certainly more proper and conservative than other selfs I've taken, but this is medicine after all.
