Galicia - Santiago de Compostela

Since I didn't write anything last time, I'll talk about Galicia and Santiago de Compostela in this post.

Galicia is an autonomous community in northwest Spain with its own historic language, gallego. Its capital, Santiago de Compostela, is renowned for its cathedral which is an international destination of pilgrimage. Pilgrims from all over the world spend weeks or months backpacking through the countryside and following the "Camino de Santiago".

It doesn't matter who you are - old, young, spiritual, atheist - many just do the camino for the experience. In fact, my friend's 60-some Portuguese host dad just recently got up and left for a two-week bike trip to Santiago de Compostela. And on the bus to the airport I met a young man from Barcelona who had taken a 1-month vacation from work and flown to Burgos to make the trip from there. He explained how the people he met along the way were incredibly friendly, the landscape always beautiful, the journey very difficult, but the experience very rewarding.

None of the pictures below are of the church itself. Frankly I've seen enough churches to last me a lifetime. And you can easily find pictures of it online, and the lighting inside isn't suitable for good photos anyways. Instead are some sights from the city that surrounds the church.

Street shots like this are by far my favorite things to shoot in a city,
so there might be a lot of these in future posts.

Frog legs. They tasted like chicken.

An unintentional self-portriat with only some color editing.
I like how the reflection is such that it looks like I warped into the frame.
