Morocco - The Souks of Marrakech

The souks (open air marketplace) in Marrakech are quite literally a maze of streets lined with hundreds of shops selling every type of merchandise imaginable. I loved meandering through the streets and looking at all the spices, fruits, colorful cloths and scarves, purses, shoes, pots, and and other tiny trinkets. Though I could have done without the constant harrassment from shop owners and street peddlers - a nuisance that every foreign traveler in those regions has to deal with, but that I felt particularly prone to as a single female traveler. It's amazing how the merchants probably speak at least 5 languages on a very basic level. Occasionally when some stranger bothered me I would try to speak Spanish, thinking they wouldn't understand me and leave me alone. Lo and behold, they would just reply to me in Spanish and so I would keep up the charade and managed to successfully pull off the guise of being Spanish. Barcelona - Gaudi

Barcelona is famous for its buildings designed by Gaudi. He has a highly individualistic style and some rather bizarre creations scattered throughout the city. It can be quite expensive and time consuming to go to them all, so visited a select few: La Sagrada Familia, Park Guell, La Pedrera, and Casa Batllo (from the outside). La Sagrada Familia This is my favorite cathedral that I've ever been to. Just look at those awe-inspiring cavernous ceilings! I'm not sure why most pictures show the other, old-fashioned side of the building, because this side is much prettier. It's such a modern building with an abundance of natural lighting, unlike most other cathedrals where I feel as as if I've walked into well-decorated dungeon. Doesn't this look like it's from a sci-fi movie? Not to mention all the cool statues at the entrance, all cut in a contemporary fashion. Recital

I went to my recital yesterday, and I feel like sharing what happened. I arrive at the end of the first part of the recital. I see a good mix of white people and eastern asians and think "Thank God there are a decent number of white people! Eastern asians are so talented at music, they intimidate me."* I hear the last two performers and they're great. The type of great that comes from years of playing the instrument and practicing like any normal child should. Then MY half of the recital starts. All the white people leave and I'm the only one who's not eastern-asian. I'm 9 of 14 in the playing order. When #8 goes up, she plays her piece perfectly, with the melody crystal clear and the timing perfect. When it's my turn to play, I play so horribly that I cringe at the noise I create (perhaps I'm too hard on myself). The boy who goes after me is both younger and better.
