Barcelona - City Sights

Just went through a storm of editing since I finished my last final yesterday. So now I have ~4 posts to last me the next few months since my life will soon be consumed by the MCATs.

Now onto the photos. Barcelona was my favorite city in Spain – it was even more beautiful and captivating than Madrid (although I’d still rather live in Madrid). I generally don’t like beaches, but Barcelona had a nice beachy feel to it. No fish or seafood smell. Just palm trees and a certain sense of liberty permeating the air. No wonder Shakira chose to shoot Loca here.

There were many tourist attractions for the weekend visitor, and I enjoyed doing ALL of them! What I most loved, however, was renting a bike and voyaging around the city and along the beach. Something I definitely recommend for any future travelers. Also a must-see is the Palau de la Musica Catalana. It was absolutely gorgeous, and your entrance comes with a guided tour. No pictures allowed inside unfortunately.

Barcelona, Spain, Gaudi building in distance, mouse cake
Both of these things amuse me for different reasons.
Why Gaudi felt inspired to design such a phallic building is beyond me. The mouse cake is just cute.

Barcelona, Spain, Bicing, bicycles
Barcelona has a community bike system for its residents called 'Bicing'.
Users simply pay a small yearly membership fee, and then have access to the bikes located
at numerous stations located throughout the city. They swipe their card to check out a bike at
one station, and return it to the station closest to their destination. Brilliant, isn't it?
