Patito Feo

The entertainment industry in Spain is...well...rather lacking to put it mildly. Although from previous travel experiences, I get the feeling that this is the case almost everywhere outside the U.S. So what does a girl who practically can't breathe without TV and movies in the U.S. watch when she's left with a mere 21 channels (three-fourths of which are news, sports, infomercials, and dubbed American shows)?

¡Patito Feo!

Yes, that's right, my new favorite TV show is Patito Feo, a teen drama on the Disney channel that follows the life Patito - a dorky girl sporting large square glasses, braided pigtails, and clothes reminiscent of Strawberry Shortcake. The show itself is a blend of High School Musical/Glee, Zoey 101, and Ugly Betty. While it's a regression in depth and humour compared to what I usually watch, it's perfect for my time here in Spain. It's easy to understand the language, easy to pick up what's going on, lighthearted, and relatable. Plus the Argentinian accent is absolutely gorgeous (I love their pronunciation of "ll" and "y").

You can watch the first episode on youtube, and many more on megavideo.

It has your typical cheesy moments of family happiness (and family disagreements).

It has characters with spunk.

And features gems such as this.

(A song I already have stuck in my head)
